OpTic Texas shock everyone after taking down Toronto Ultra to stay unbeaten with new roster

After the CDL went through the blender with flagship player OpTic Scump retiring, we could only hope for some good games last weekend and my gosh did the CDL deliver, with OpTic Texas remaining unbeaten while FaZe and Los Angeles Thieves suffered shock losses to lower league teams.

Also, Seattle Surge – the team that finished second place in Major 1 – lost both of their online matches this weekend. This comes after turning down what would have been a record-breaking transfer of Surge star Pred to OpTic, which the player wanted, leading some to speculate of an internal breakdown of relations within the squad resulting in their poor performance.

Friday and Saturday face-off between the teams

Last year’s winners Los Angeles Thieves (LAT) – the CDL team for franchise 100 Thieves – lost on Friday in an embarrassing 3-0 fashion to Toronto Ultra, although they were using substitute Capsidal as Kenny is currently suffering an injury.

Meanwhile, New York Subliners (NYSL) continued their dominance after winning this season’s Major 1 of the CDL Modern Warfare season with a convincing 3-1 over Florida Mutineers, putting the latter eighth in the standings with 10 points in total.

But the real shock came on Saturday, as Faze lost to a struggling Minnesota Rokker 0-3, which has led to a resurfacing of the opinion Faze was wrong for dropping last season’s in-game leader Arcitys for Slasher on the main AR.

Meanwhile, the former Dallas Empire roster of Huke, Illy & Shotzzy who coined themselves as XEO – with Dashy back after the drop controversy with coach Rambo – seem to be firing on all cylinders.

The OpTic boys dominated top 3 team Ultra over four maps to ensure they continued their unbeaten run over the last 8 games.

London Royal Raverns didn’t hold up a fight, even with new additions to the roster Scrapz not yet delivering against LA Thieves, but perhaps that was to be expected after a deserved bounce-back from LAT after Friday.

Boston had a cagey game against Vegas, which seemed always in their favor, with big plays out of fan-favorite Methodz.

Sunday redemption

Skrapz and teammates over at the London Royal Ravens sought redemption on arguably the other worst team in the league, Vegas Legion, which they got with a 3-1 win. It’s another loss that saw veteran Clayster, now referred to as Greyster because of his relatively high age in the league, actively frustrated about follow the game.

Rokker got no better against an arguably weaker LAG team ¬– which saw them lose Huke to Optic and switch almost their entire squad for their challenges team – suffering a 1-3 loss in the online qualifier. However, FaZe bounced back after a series of streaming issues which saw them win 3-2 over the last major champions NYSL.

Standings after weekend matches in CDL

After what was a very convincing Major 1 in the CDL, NYSL now finds themselves 10 points behind OpTic Texas and Toronto Ultra, with the former having a 9-5 win advantage and the latter sitting on a 10-4.

In their favor, Boston Breach, LAG, Faze & Rokker all sit at 20 points with a 2-1 win-loss count which means they still contenders to finish well coming up to the final.

Surprisingly, LAT is down there with the Mutineers, Vegas, and London, with 10 points each and a series win of 1-2 or 1-3.
