OpTic Texas punish Atlanta FaZe as NYSL slip out of top spot: Call of Duty League

The final week weekend of matches before the Call Of Duty League (CDL) Major 3 finished yesterday, with shock results and more internal organization drama which has left viewers non-the-wiser as to who might take the cup next week.

Highlights included Toronto Ultra getting schooled by bottom-of-the-table London, while on Sunday three proved the magic number, with 3 games and 3 shock results on the last day before Major 3.

Fridays fights

The lower league teams kicked off the weekend, with Royal Ravens facing Seattle Surge, Vegas Legion playing Minnesota Rokker before Los Angeles Guerillas (LAG) versus Florida Mutineers.

The struggling Ravens were no match for Seattle, who are having a re-surge-nce (pun intended) after a disappointing Major 2 which saw them exit on the first day. Surge took the match 3 games to 1 and many are now wondering when another roster change might be due for London.

Another struggling team, Vegas, did the opposite, beating Rokker 3-2 in a tense game five before LAG registered a much-needed win against a mid-table and mediocre Florida.

Saturday scenes

The biggest shock on Saturday was the London versus Toronto Ultra game, which London won, proving the doubters wrong over the 5 games series to show some serious skill to go the distance and a beat top team in Toronto. The reaction was felt across the scene as Scrappy, the controversial rookie picked up by Ultra before the season who is known for his cocky bravado, was schooled by one of the lowest teams in the league.

OpTic were also delivered an upset, getting swept 3-0 by New York Sub Liners, who looked to be out for revenge after dropping from top of the overall standings last week. Meanwhile, Rokker’s weekend went from bad to worse as they were also swept 3-0 by Los Angeles Thieves (LAT), who looked hot ahead of Major 3.

Finally, LAG beat Vegas 3-1 to finish the games on Saturday, resulting in a good outing for the organization which is likely still hurting from the news last week that the team will be disbanded at the end of the season. A good run at Major 3 would definitely help their endeavors to be bought out by another company in order to continue competing in the CDL.

Sunday surprise

Sunday delivered 3 games and 3 surprise results to round out the weekend.

First, OpTic bounced back from a difficult defeat on Saturday to serve up something to celebrate for their fans, with a 3-1 win over FaZe that not many could have predicted.

Seattle then beat a hot NYSL comfortably 3-0, a much-needed result for a group of players that have seemingly lacked teamwork and confidence following OpTic’s interest in star player Pred. While the deal didn’t go through, Pred made it clear he wanted to go, which has impacted team results ever since. They’ll be looking to make a statement and emulate their success from Major 1, where they finished second.

Finally, Boston Breach beat Major 1 winners LAT 3-2, leaving everything to play for at Major 3 next week.
