The games kicked off despite a number of players being barred from taking part due to the FIFA transfer window.
Kirivong enjoyed a comfortable start to their campaign with a routine win over Koh Kong. This was tipped up be a tight one and although the 2-0 scoreline suggests it was tight the overall game was much more revealing. Kirivong dominated throughout and were never really threatened. They hit the post several times on the first half and we’re wasteful on front of goal.
The breakthrough finally coming late in the game with two goals in five minutes. Tiffy were up against a high flying EDC but any hopes of an upset were destroyed with a typically efficient display albeit untypically ruthless from Army. EDC fast flowing football couldn’tget moving and Army ran out 4-0 winners. The final game in the group saw Vishaka overcome “little brother” Prey Veng 2-1.
A Siem Reap crowd of over a 1,000 were on hand to watch ISI beat Angkor Tiger becoming the only team in the opening weekend from CL2 to beat a CPL team. The usual gap in class was nowhere to be seen and whilst Tiger enjoyed a lot of sideways passes and brief spells of quality, this was a ISI display worth noting as their emergence as one of the most exciting clubs in the country.
