League Cup Draw 2023

Cambodian football fans were on the edges of their seats as The Cambodian League Cup draw took place on Thursday. Two groups of seven teams, reach playing three home games and three away. The top four teams will advance to the knockout stages. 

What Games Are We Excited About?

The usual mouth watering ties between Crown, Svay Rieng, Vishaka and BK will undoubtedly be the highlights and with the seeding being so kind it’s odds on that they will be the final four come May. Angkor Tiger will have a chance to reignite their rivalry with Soltilo, Prey Veng will take on Vishaka giving them the chance to give their big brother a little shock and finally Kirivong will play EDC, Prey Veng and Koh Kong all of whom are knocking on the door to take their place in the CPL. 

The Group of Death …..

Vishaka and BK are the heavy weights of the group and it’ll a straight punch up for 1st and 2nd place. Tiffy Army are always a dark horse and capable of beating anyone. The remaining place in this group will be a fight between Kirivong, Koh Kong, Prey Veng and EDC. The League Two champions are going to be a tough team to beat and for me they will take 4th spot. 

ISI Give Chance to Shine… 

ISI have made a lot of headlines recently with their new stadium and average crowds hitting the thousands every week. It’s an exciting project and one that everyone will be keeping an eye on. Crown and Svay Rieng will fight out for the top two spots then Tiger, Nagaworld and ISI will battle out for the remaining two. Police and Soltilo will be happy to be hard to beat and will hope to give good accounts of themselves. 

Next Step FC, Siem Reap FC, Tbong Khnom, AEU, National Academy all decided to not feature on this year’s competition and BMC recently announced they’re to close the doors on the football club due to financial issues.
