The season might be a way away yet, but we can still start thinking about who the next champions might be.In the next of our series we look at Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, the team that perhaps were robbed of the title in 2022.

Finished 3rd in 2022, BUT won the regular season and were top and best for most of the campaign. Essentially they won the league, but not the playoffs with some arguing that they got a bum deal.
Consistent for five seasons and probably play the best football in the league. Alas they have failed at the final furlong and this cannot be underestimated. Are they choke artists?
In my mind the Arsenal of Cambodia. Play the best football, had a while as the invincible\s, but don’t win enough trophies. They also punch above their weight money wise.
Currently three top-tier championships, two runners-up, as well as four cup wins and three runners-up.
They were also twice runners-up in the Binh Phuoc YV Cup, but we really don’t know much about this trophy!
Pretty much the second most successful club in the country and by far the biggest club outside of Phnom Penh (kinda).
Not the best stadium in the CPL, but far from the worst. PKR Svay Rieng are unique in that they are based in Phnom Penh (for the players), but play in the provincial town of Svay Rieng, a model also followed by Prey Veng FC.
Stadium holds 2,150 people and they are known to fill it out.

The longest serving, arguably the best and many peoples choice for national manager, Irishman Conor Nestor. Nestor has won all the biggest trophies whilst playing great football and having an intense knowledge of the both the local and international game.

Where to start? We personally have a liking for Markus Haber, the top scorer from the last two years. But they have also signed the two Brazilians Iago and Gabriel from Angkor Tiger, arguably giving them the best front three in the league.
This is toped up with some of the best Cambodian players, as well as a greta youth setup, giving them one of the strongest squads in the league.
Too long the bridesmaid and not the bride, only the tile, and or the cup will do. As a spectator you get the impression they are on the cusp of greatness and perhaps 2023-24 will be the season. With the two signings up front they really do look dangerous going into the season.
The Gareth Johnson prediction? CHAMPIONS -Opinion does not necessarily represent that of CSR, or BPVE……
