After an impressive pre-season in Thailand and remaining unbeaten there were many, myself included, that thought Vishaka were set for a big season challenging Svay Rieng & Crown. Two games in, and a gap of already six points, there are many already speculating when Bong Meas Channa will be bought in the steady sinking ship.
Vishaka have lost opening two games of 2024-25.
Vishaka opened up with a tough away fixture to Crown, and will be disappointed at how easily they were brushed aside by their Phnom Penh rivals. Their opening home game came this weekend as they took on Nagaworld with many expecting a home win. However Nagaworld were resolute defensively, quick on the counter and gave Vishaka a lesson in taking chances. Two games, two defeats and already the fans are calling for a change.
League table after two games.
After just two games Svay Rieng and Crown lead the way, giving football fans that sinking feeling it’s going to be a two horse race AGAIN. Svay Rieng smashed Tiffy 7-0 and ran riot over ISI last Friday although a 4-1 scoreline flattered them. Crown has beaten Vishaka and came from behind to beat Tiffy.
Elsewhere, it can’t be ignored that Nagaworld have started superbly well and if there is any one that can challenge the top two then it’s most likely going to be them. If they can remain consistent there is no reason they can’t challenge.
As for the rest of the league, after Vishaka begins their recovery from their bad start, it will be 7 teams all capable of beating each other and taking points off each other. Boeung Ket opened their season with a win but it was gifted to them by a Kirivong team trying too hard to be Manchester City. Life FC and Ministry will always be tough to beat, Tiger and Tiffy will both be happy there is no risk because there is no relegation so give it another 4 weeks and their seasons will be over and pointless.
It may only be two games but already 6 points behind their title rivals and low on confidence it’s already looking like a long season. They go away to Life FC this weekend and anything but 3 Points will almost certainly see the end of the current regime.
