Angkor Golf- Bridging The Gap

Tucked away on the outskirts of the city you’d be forgiven for not knowing too much about one of the countries best golf clubs. However spend an afternoon there and you will never forgive yourself for not going back

Covid forced some changes….

All over the world golf is a sport for the higher classes. In Cambodia accessibility is very difficult for those living on less than a one round may cost and even the middle classes, expats and tourists would see 18 holes to be a treat rather than a regularity. Course manager, David Baron, who’s lived in Cambodia for ten years has always worked towards trying to bridge that gap by offering free golf to schools, NGO and reduced rates for expats and Khmers. However it’s the wealthy Asians and foreigners that pay the bills so they are front and center.

With COVID hitting the country hard Baron was forced to think outside the box to keep generating revenue, maintain as much staff as  possible and keep the course looking at perfect as it does.

Connect the community… .

David has been on a one mission getting into the community and finding ways to get more people to the club. The location and setting make this perfect not just got golf but all kinds of events. The picturesque quality of the course means anyone looking for that perfect Instagram shot would be hard pressed to find a better place.

The club has begun supporting local iniatives and it’s also hosting music events. Over the past six months as business begins to grow again the course is now on am unstoppable roll with all types of events being held every week.

More to come…

Over the coming months the club will continue to grow and locals looking for something a little different to do should be on the lookout. Golf in Cambodia is no longer for just the elite and on most nights it’s not even golf.
