The ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Morodok Techo National Stadium with several hundred people in attendance.

The ceremony followed the 200-day countdown that CAMSOC marked in October 2022.

The chefs de mission of Cambodia, Philippines. Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia also attended the ceremony, which started with a fireworks display.

Per reports published in local publications, the ceremony also featured song and dance numbers and sports demonstrations, which amazed the attendees led by Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Tea Banh, who is also the chairman of CAMSOC.

For starters, CAMSOC is the agency in-charge of all SEA Games-related activities, with 14 expert committees working under it.

Among the highlights of the night was an Lbokator performance and song numbers performed by various artists, including Hong Sovatha Rith (Kun Khmer Inherited and Nerk 24 Hours), Chhin Manich (Be Yourself), Sok Seylalin (High School Championship) and Zono (The Union of Solidarity).

There were also speeches by leading dignitaries, including DPM Banh, Tourism Minister and CAMSOC Vice Chair Thong Khon and Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) Council boss Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, who delivered his remarks via a video link.

Peace and dev’t brought SEA Games to Cambodia

In his message, Dr Thong Khon said Cambodia is about to achieve something it has been waiting for a very long time.

Within just 100 days to go, Cambodia will fulfill its dream to mark the country’s sports legacy by hosting this 32nd Southeast Asian Games for the very first time in the kingdom’s 64 years history,” he said.

The CAMSOC vice chair noted that “Sports: Live In Peace” was chosen as the Games’ motto to highlight how peace has been crucial for the Kingdom’s sports development with the country now enjoying peace, stability, and rapid development.

“The International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia have acknowledged the Royal Government’s continuous commitment and contribution to promote the Olympic Movement in building a peaceful and better world through sport and Olympic ideals,” he pointed out.

“SEA Games is more than just a regional multi-sport festival. It’s not only providing the opportunity for the athletes to compete fairly, but also promoting friendship, respect, and solidarity to build a peaceful, stable and resilient South East Asia Community,” he added.

The ceremony ended with another fireworks display, which lighted up the area around the new stadium.
