Scump hosts record-breaking viewership for winning qualifier match following retirement from CDL

Following his retirement, the biggest face in Call Of Duty (COD) eSports gaming ¬¬– OpTic Scump – broke a new record on his watch party as the new team roster faced up against bitter rivals Seattle Surge.

The game didn’t disappoint either, with Surge taking Optic all the way to game five before losing in the final game mode Search & Destroy, which despite the former’s star-studded talent, has failed to perform so far this season.

However, despite the nervy game, the newly retired Scump stole the show without even lifting up a controller, registering some 80,000 views – double that of the official Call Of Duty broadcast – in his Watch Party with co-hosts Hecz & Mboze.

Popular CDL commentator and YouTuber, Tactical Rab, said, “with a lot of the watch parties you don’t quite get the same insight you get from professional players and Scump’s live stream where he was breaking down a game he’s just finished playing his playing career on and the way he understands it at a very high level was great to watch.”

Known as the King, Scumps retirement came early after some controversy surrounding the team line-up, after what was a disappointing CDL season last year that started so well.

After winning the first Major of the season in the 2022 COD game Vanguard, the team – which comprised Dashy, Scump, and one-time CDL major winners Illey and Shotzzy, failed to impress not registering a higher ranking than 4th in any major following the win during the entire season

This led to a tumultuous off-season as half of the four-man roster was dropped, namely the two Canadians Dashy & Illey, before being brought back after Scump announced it would be his last year competing. Then, in an insane turn of events, OpTic coach Rambo – who was instrumental in bringing Scump into his 12-year career into professional gaming in COD – appeared to be part of the reason to ‘re-drop’ Dashy from the eSports team due to issues with his ‘attitude’.

What made the dropping especially spicy, was that the target for OpTic following the drop was nonother than Surge’s Pred, an Australian who has made a huge impact in the North American-dominated league since his arrival during Vanguard.

When the deal didn’t go through, despite controversy over the handling by Surge, OpTic picked up former teammates of Illy and Shotzzy, Huke, from lackluster CDL team Los Angeles Gorillaz.

However, this move saw Scump – after a series of OpTic content complaining about the drama – play just one more match before announcing his retirement. In a crazy turn of events, this led to OpTic owner Hecz coming in and saying that Dashy was returning.

Now, Rambo hasn’t been as active on social media or seemingly been part of the team, but you’ll need to watch this space to keep up on whether he is, or he isn’t, being part of an OpTic team which now has one of the team members he seemingly had beef with the return.

Despite the drama, Tactical Rab said that despite the drama, Scumps viewership was absolutely immense and testament to him being the King.

“They knew the viewership was going to be event obviously, but I didn’t really think it was going to be even as good as it turned out to be. I mean, this was like during the first game map, one of the first game,s and had 25k, on a Friday! Not a championship Sunday.”

“Scump was just sitting there having a good time and looking chilled out and just talking with the boys about whatever. On previous content, there was an element of stress with all the drama going on, he seemed chilled on the watch party and it’s great to see.”

Scump also got a lot of send-offs and appreciation from the league also. However, TacticalRab did have a spicy comment to make about the send-offs and attention that was not given to other, arguably influential and retiring players.

“What about Crim [referring to the most decorated COD player of all time CrimSix), what did he really get? Basically nothing. Maybe he didn’t earn anything from the CDL because he wasn’t always the best to them, and they weren’t either, but I think he believes there’s some sort of great theory that they’re trying to, you know, shut him down or whatever the league is, but at least he should have got a good send off by all involved in the league.”
